Darien Gonzales (@Varo_Arts) grew up sketching and drawing. As a child, he competed in school art contests, creating his own cartoon characters for his friends. His dream was to create characters that could bring joy to people's lives by creating animated characters for movies and comics.
Originally from a small municipality in Eastern Cuba, Darien moved to the capital of his province in the hopes of bringing his creativity to a larger audience where he studied Sculpture and fine arts, graduating from the University of Enseñansa Superior.
While in University, he worked on animations for TV and educational software programs, fulfilling a lifelong dream. After 9 years of working as a graphics designer, Darien relocated to Havana to focus full time on his arts and creative pursuits. By working in Cuba's artistic capital, he immersed himself in the thriving art scene and quickly became a recognizable artist at the local art fairs' cultural movement. Darien has always been fascinated by Pop Art and draws inspiration from the female form and aesthetic beauty. He loves all curves. Combining pop art with the human condition, he tries to express social injustices, daily life, and the beauty in all things great and small.
He has been selling artwork through galleries in Old Havana for the past 5 years and has shipped paintings internationally to the UK, Canada, Spain, the U.A.E and Australia with collectors on all continents. Graffik Gallery is incredibly excited to be representing Darien and bring his work to Europe.
